What is a vehicle?
A vehicle provides the means to look at information in different ways. Vehicles are customizations of the more generic i platform which forms the base for vehicle development. The Vehicle Factory provides mechanisms to do 2 basic functions.
- Create the look and feel of the vehicle to the external world. In collaborative spaces a vehicle can be viewed by others in your environment and to that end, they can be customized with certain looks. This is kind of the fun part of vehicle building. The vehicle is your representation in a collaborative space, when you are not being viewed as a persona by an avatar.
- Internally vehicles are built with applications, services, utilities, access to databases, data sets, content, tools, and instruments that allows the traveler to interact with the collaborative space they are in.
The vehicle builder is designed into 2 parts the external view and the internal view. There are several principles behind the vehicle. Information is looked at differently depending on the instruments we use to look at it. For example if humans could visually see into the infra-red end of the electromagnetic spectrum they would see the world very differently than they do with just the perception of visual light.
